Moong Dal Halwa is a popular Indian sweet/ dessert made with moong dal, ghee and sugar.

Ingredients
Soaked moong dal ( broken yellow moong lentils ) :- 1 cup
Sugar :- 1 cup
Milk :- 1 cup
Ghee :- 1 cup
Saffron (kesar):- a pinch (optional)
Mawa (khoya) :- 3/4 cup
Chopped nuts (cashews, almonds, pistachios) :- 1/4 cup
Cardamom Powder :- 1/4 tsp
Sugar :- 1 cup
Milk :- 1 cup
Ghee :- 1 cup
Saffron (kesar):- a pinch (optional)
Mawa (khoya) :- 3/4 cup
Chopped nuts (cashews, almonds, pistachios) :- 1/4 cup
Cardamom Powder :- 1/4 tsp
Methods
Soak the moong dal for 1-2 hours in water. Drain and grind to a coarse paste using very little water.
Soak saffron in hot milk.
Heat the ghee in a non-stick pan and add the moong dal paste and saute, stirring continuously for about 15-20 mins, over low heat till the dal turns golden brown.
Simultaneously, heat the sugar and water together with cardamom powder and bring to a boil.
Now add milk to the dal paste and also add the sugar syrup.
Add mawa and cook till it dissolves. Mix well and cook till the mixture starts leaving the sides of the pan. Add nuts and mix well.
Garnish with rosted nuts.
Serve hot.
