Dal Makhani is a very popular Indian recipe. A spicy dal preparation made with a combination of rajma and urad dal.

Ingredients
Whole black gram (urad dal) :- 1/2 cup
Red kidney beans (rajma) :- 2 tbsp
Butter :- 2 tbsp
Onion :- 1 large, chopped
Ginger :- 2 inch , chopped
Garlic :- 6-7 cloves, chopped
Oil / Ghee :- 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds :- 1 1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder :- 1 tsp
Green chillies,slit :- 2
Tomatoes :- 2 medium, chopped
Garam masala powder :- 1 tsp
Fresh cream for garnishing
Salt to taste

Methods
Clean, wash and soak the whole urad and rajma overnight. Drain and keep aside.
Pressure cook urad dal and rajma in three cups of water with salt and half the red chilli powder and half inch of the ginger for 3-4 whistles. Mash the dal properly.
Heat butter and oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds. When they begin to change colour, add ginger, garlic and onion and sauté till golden.
Add slit green chillies, tomatoes and red chilli powder, fry on high heat till the tomato get soft.
Add the cooked dal and rajma. Add some water if the mixture is too thick. Add garam masala powder and salt.
Simmer on low heat till the dals are totally soft.
Garnish with butter cube and fresh cream.
Serve hot with tandoori roti, naan etc.
